U.S. Independence Day July 4

July 4th falls on a Sunday. Our office will be closed on Monday, July 5th so our employees can safely celebrate the holiday with their families along with the rest of the country and government offices celebrate a three day weekend.

Please be careful. Fireworks traditionally are displayed as part of this historical celebration.

As members of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) we caution everyone to leave the fireworks to the professionals. Every year, immediately after this great holiday in the United States we read about tragedies across our great nation that were caused by ordinary people wishing to celebrate with illegal as well as legal fireworks in their community. Some interesting statistics were just furnished by our county police department.

The Fourth of July Fireworks, although popular, can be extremely harmful.  Fireworks statistics show that…

  • An estimated 9,800 people were treated in emergency rooms for fireworks-related injuries in the United States, in 2007.
  • Approximately 16% of all consumer fireworks injuries are caused by sparklers burning hands and legs, with the majority of these injuries occurring to young children.
  • Most of these injuries happen at the victims’ homes.
  • Fireworks can cause life threatening residential fires.
  • Children ages 5 to 9 years old have the highest rate of injuries related to fireworks.

U.S. Independence Day continued...

There are many licensed professionals that perform fireworks presentations for the public.  Attending a fireworks display is a fun and safe way to enjoy the holiday.

Each major U.S. holiday over the past 34 years we have cautioned our clients, friends, and visitors to our website to stay alert and be aware of potential hazards with fireworks. In some cases we have passed on information about some horrible tragedies related to amateur fireworks displays at family and neighborhood parties and celebrations.

For your children’s sake turn on your speakers and click on the following NFPA link concerning fireworks…. http://www.nfpa.org/newsReleaseDetails.asp... And, http://www.nfpa.org/itemDetail.asp?categoryID=...

If you are the parent of a young child please make sure you watch the film about the tragic death of Michael Shannon.
